Attorney Michael Rutkowski and his team are eloquent speakers, educators, and legal experts in the field of older adult life planning. As professionals in senior services, my nurse and social worker colleagues and I have participated in their lectures on trusts and wills, VA benefits, asset protection, advanced planning including when or how to use Medicaid. Meeting the Rutkowski team in-person, I have found them to be personable and interested listeners, looking for ways to support people throughout the aging process.

Like many, 2020 was a really, really tough year for our family. My father passed away after a long illness, and despite my parents' best efforts to plan ahead for my mother's future needs, there remained some considerable gaps that left my mother's remaining assets largely unprotected. Addressing this became even more important when, four months after losing my dad, my mom sustained a traumatic injury; suddenly, we were faced with her long recovery and mounting long-term care costs. My sister and I immediately sought the help of Casey Callahan at the Rutkowski Law Firm to guide us through some early MedicAid planning questions and discussed how to structure her assets so that we could afford to meet her long-term care needs in the best way possible without running out of money! Early on, Casey also identified some issues with our (previously-formed) Power of Attorney documents that - had we not addressed them upfront - would've made our next "legal steps" impossible. We ultimately formed an irrevocable trust so that mom's house would be protected if/when her liquid assets were exhausted. Due to COVID-19, Casey was able to accommodate our needs through several Zoom calls, which actually worked out pretty well for us as my sister and I live in different states! Their firm was even able to conduct a "virtual signing" of the trust documents. We were genuinely impressed by Casey's thorough knowledge of elder law and found him to be a really good listener, very friendly, personable, compassionate, and overall FANTASTIC to work with!! I highly recommend Casey, as well as the entire the Rutkowski team; they are all highly-skilled professionals that specialize in many different legal disciplines. Casey made what may have otherwise been a complicated and difficult task feel very manageable and easy to understand. He walked us through every step of the trust formation process and explained all the terminology along the way -- he was an excellent partner through the whole process, and we're extremely grateful for all his hard work. And while their fees are reasonable for the level of service they offer, the peace of mind Casey provided was priceless.

We completed our planning while Michigan was under a “Stay Safe At Home” order so we met virtually through Zoom. I will recommend him to anyone for their planning needs.
