Our skilled attorneys work with individuals and families in practice areas that include:
Taxation: Properly planning for taxation during the estate planning process will save your family from future uncertainties. We can help you address federal estate and gift taxes, state estate and death taxes, and IRA inheritance planning.
Estate plans: From a simple will, to a complicated living trust involving business planning, we are able to help you with your estate planning needs. We provide tailored estate plans that can include advanced directives, power of attorneys, designation of guardians, and deeds.
Probate and trust settlement: Whether you need help with probate or settling a trust, we can help you navigate these complex situations. We pride ourselves on working closely with personal representatives, trustees, and executors of estates, whether these individuals are local or out of state.
Business planning and succession: It is important to plan for business matters in your personal estate plan in order to ensure that your personal assets are protected. We will help you anticipate and plan accordingly.
Asset protection: Utilizing trusts, we help clients protect their assets from unfair collections in the event of a lawsuit.
It is important to understand your business's structure at the time of creation, as that structure governs important decisions throughout the life of the business. Such decisions can implicate matters of taxation, liability, personal risk exposure, management, and dissolution. We advise clients on the best options for business formation and provide legal guidance in getting each client’s business up and running.
Our firm assists all types of businesses in maintaining the proper legal framework and protecting owners from unnecessary risks. We provide individualized advice depending on each business client’s needs.
Our skilled lawyers work with businesses in practice areas that include:
Taxation: The business’s structure will determine what type of taxation the business will be subjected to. Here at the Rutkowski Law Firm, we will advise you as to what the different types of taxation would mean for your business.
Business planning: Starting your business off on the right track is the most important part of your business’s initial actions. Our attorneys will provide valuable advice and insight into exactly what your business will need.
Business dissolution: Most times, the method of dissolution for a business is determined during the business’s formation. We will help you dissolve your business properly, while striving to end each business venture with a positive outcome.
Business sale and merger: Just as with a business dissolution, the method for a sale or merger is more often than not decided during the business’s formation. Our team will provide the support and advice you need to set your organization up for success upon either of these events.
Asset protection: Running a business can lead to liabilities, not only to the business, but also to the owners. We provide comprehensive liability assessments to make sure that a business’s assets and our client’s assets are fully protected.
At the Rutkowski Law Firm, we represent businesses and individuals in real estate transactions and disputes. Our firm is experienced in working with buyers, sellers, lenders and title companies. Our skilled lawyers work with individuals and businesses in practice areas that include:

Purchase agreements: Our attorneys both review and draft purchase agreements, making sure each is tailored to the needs of the parties involved.
Lease agreements: We represent both individuals and businesses entering into lease agreements. Whether you are the landlord or the interested tenant, we are experienced in reviewing and drafting lease agreements.
Landlord-tenant matters: Landlords and tenants each have separate rights important to protect when leasing property. Our attorneys are familiar with the legal process for properly enforcing provisions of a lease agreement, which is crucial for our landlord clients. We also represent tenants seeking to protect their rights against landlord action or inaction.
Seller's disclosure statement: A seller’s disclosure statement is required by statute in Michigan for most residential home sales and, as such, proper documentation must be completed prior to closing. We assist sellers in producing such disclosure statements. We also help buyers with reviewing a seller’s disclosure statement.
Deeds: At the Rutkowski Law Firm, we are well versed in deeds, including writing deeds and filing deeds. Whatever your specific needs are for creating a deed, we will be able to provide you with assistance to make sure that the deed is properly written and recorded.
New construction: All new building constructions, whether they are residential or commercial, require extensive paperwork, permits, and contracts. We provide legal services for all stages of the construction process. Whether you need a simple contract reviewed, a contract drafted for your specific needs, or require representation for the whole construction process, we will provide you with assistance along the way.
At the Rutkowski Law Firm, we understand that whether you are an employee or an employer, your livelihood is at stake in an employment action. We represent both employers and employees in all types of employment matters.
From the simple employment contract review, to the litigation of a wrongful discharge claim, the Rutkowski Law Firm is here to advocate for you.
Our skilled lawyers work with individuals and businesses in employment matters that include:
Wrongful discharge: When you or an employee is let go, sometimes there are questions as to whether the discharge was improper. Our attorneys will provide the advice that you need to make important decisions about your case.
Discrimination: We provide legal services for workplace discrimination actions based on race, gender, pregnancy, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, ethnicity, and physical or mental disability.
Disparate treatment: We represent clients involved with issues surrounding denial of promotions, failure to hire, stereotyping, unequal pay, and wrongful termination.
Whistleblower: Michigan recognizes the right of an employee to report their employer for illegal actions and activity. We can provide the representation you need to file a whistleblower lawsuit or the representation you need to defend against a whistleblower action.
Family and medical leave act (FMLA): OOur attorneys are well versed in the FMLA. Whether you are an employee or an employer, we help you understand FMLA and what this legislation means for you.
Non-compete agreements: Michigan law allows for non-compete agreements in an employer-employee relationship. Our firm reviews non-compete agreements to advice-to-advice clients regarding their rights. We also draft tailored, non-compete clauses that comply with Michigan law.
Retaliation: Whether you are an employee who has been retaliated against or a business that must defend a retaliation lawsuit, we will provide you with representation through the phases of such a lawsuit.
Working overseas for a US company: Legal disputes frequently arise between US entities and employees working overseas. When employee issues arise in these situations, we can represent you to make sure that all applicable laws are upheld.

At the Rutkowski Law Firm, our attorneys understand that each divorce or child custody matter is unique, and our attorneys strive to protect your rights, your assets, and the rights of any minor children involved.
Beyond custody and parenting time matters, we also assist families and minors with a variety of children’s rights issues. Our attorneys represent both parents and minors in cases where a child’s best interests are at issue.
Our skilled lawyers work with families, individuals, and minors in practice areas that include:
Adoptions: Making the decision to adopt a child can be very exciting, but it can also come along with numerous legal matters that must be addressed before an adoption is complete. We can guide you through this process.
Neglect or abuse: When the neglect or abuse of a child occurs, a tense and complicated situation arises. At Rutkowski Law Firm, our attorneys handle such matters with great care and attention, striving to ensure that the child at issue is protected.
Termination of parental rights: Termination of parental rights becomes necessary under certain circumstances. Our attorneys can advise you on the law surrounding termination and the best course of action for your situation.
Visitation: Whether you want to change parent/child visitation rights or are seeking such rights for the first time, our firm can represent you and advocate for the visitation arrangements you desire.
Parenting time: In all divorce cases, parenting time is established so that each parent knows how much time they will have with their children. When circumstances change, however, we provide representation throughout the process of modifying parenting time.
Child custody: Courts in Michigan recognize parenting time as a separate issue from child custody. Just as changing circumstances can lead to a request for modifying parenting time, such changes may also warrant a change of custody arrangements. Our attorneys represent parents who wish to have custody changed or desire to maintain an existing custody arrangement.
At the Rutkowski Law Firm, we are experienced in the many phases and forms that a civil litigation matter can take. Whether you need to file a complaint, or are already involved in a lawsuit, we are here to represent you, provide strong advocacy, and facilitate reasonable outcomes.

Defendants: As a defendant in a lawsuit, you must timely respond to legal correspondence in order to avoid penalties and harmful consequences. We will assist you in providing adequate responses and effectively presenting your side of the matter.
Settlement negotiations: Whether settlement efforts take the form of arbitration, mediation, negotiation, or even informal communication, our attorneys are experienced in using these methods to reach favorable outcomes.
Discovery: We will help you navigate the sometimes-daunting process of pretrial discovery, with the goal of positioning your case for success.
Trial: When a fair settlement is not achievable outside of court, we provide detailed and strategic trial preparation and rigorous advocacy.
